Mothballed

Noble — Mon, 02/15/2010 - 07:51

The Noble Lie is in archive mode for the foreseeable future. Far too much going on for me to put it into words. Far too much going on for me to grapple with these topics on a regular basis, though it's more important than ever for people to pay attention to what's going on in the world.

I hope you've enjoyed reading. Sometimes I've enjoyed writing. Sometimes, I wrote because I had to.

As Diogenes of Sinope might say, every dog has his day. I think the day of this dog of a blog has come and gone. Goodbye.

Media woes

Noble — Thu, 12/24/2009 - 05:51

The new version of Wordpress (2.9) introduced some pretty handy video embedding features, which I'm very excited to see. However, as this has been mainly a video sharing site, I have needed this functionality for a long time and haven't waited for the Wordpress team to provide it for me.

Long ago, in the early days of this site, I wrote a small Wordpress plugin that would let me write a small tag (called a Shortcode) that would be replaced in my post by the actual code to embed a video or audio file on the page. The plugin I wrote oh so long ago is conflicting with the new video embedding features built into Wordpress.

The downside of this is that I have about 400 or so posts which I have to go through and convert all links to video files to the new, official format. Then I can finally retire my dopey little Wordpress plugin.

Expect the videos in older posts to come back slowly. I can't think of an automated way to handle these, so I will be fixing them by hand.

Media disappeared

Noble — Mon, 12/21/2009 - 18:57

Upgrading to Wordpress 2.9 hosed one of my plugins -- my audio and video should be back in the next day or two.

Thank you

Noble — Tue, 08/25/2009 - 07:02

I want to thank everyone for your predictions, that was the most diverse and interesting batch of responses a post of mine has ever gotten. As you can tell, I am on a bit of a hiatus, but if you want to keep up on the latest, there are many sites in my Links section that cover the same topics I do. I will be back, when I have more to say.

Timestamps

Noble — Thu, 06/25/2009 - 04:51

The timestamps on my blog are a constant nusiance for me. I think I've tried to fix it a dozen times, but I might just be falling off my rocker over here.

I think they are fixed now.

O Canada

Noble — Tue, 05/12/2009 - 05:13

Almost 20% of my hits now come from Canada. Got room for a couple more loud-mouthed Yankees up there?

Thank you, and welcome to the newcomers

Noble — Tue, 04/21/2009 - 16:55

My traffic has been steadily going up since I started this site. I am always surprised by the new and diverse commenters that share their unique perspective, and I feel fortunate that everyone who comments on this site has something thoughtful to say and contributes to the conversation.

To all the new commenters, and to the readers who are not active in the comments, I want to say thank you very much for your patronage and I plan to keep my eye on the lie for as long as I am able. I apologize that I don't get back to as many comments as I used to, but they really keep this site going. I don't have to ask for donations yet. Your input is your donation.

I finally cleaned up my links and put them on the main sidebar for my page. If you haven't checked out some of the sites I read, I highly encourage you to do so.

Spread thin

Noble — Mon, 02/16/2009 - 18:15

I've spread myself a bit thin here as of late, so I have been taking some time off from the blog to refocus and plan my next moves.

I'm also taking the time to remember how fortunate I have been in life so far, and all of the reasons I have to make valuable use of this lifetime.

Keep me bookmarked.
