Does this mean they're giving back all of the gold, gems, blue chip stocks and torrents of cash the Vatican has swindled over the centuries?? How about that big scepter and golden mitre he is wearing in this picture? Don't count on it, this is a message for the masses who go to Mass.
Aside from all the smart-assery, I have to say that I agree with the Pope 100% on his statement, even if he is a flaming hypocrite. And the disappearance of wealth doesn't mean "nothing," someone(s) stole it. And Ratzinger is probably pals with the people who did it.
Pope criticises pursuit of wealth
The global financial crisis is proof that the pursuit of money and success is pointless, Pope Benedict XVI has told a meeting of bishops in Rome.
The head of the Roman Catholic Church said that the disappearance of money as banks collapsed showed that wealth meant "nothing".
When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.
