Now you can play the “Who’s a Freemason” home game when brothers meet and greet in public (which they do).
The necktie is Masonic in origin. It is the cable tow (noose) that the wears during his initiations. And yes, we were all participating in a Masonic-type ritual when we put our hands on our hearts and pledged our undying allegiance to that piece of cloth every morning as children.
