Church of the Gesu

“If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.”
- O’Brien, 1984

These pictures come from the church of the Gesu, headquarters of the Jesuits in Rome. The symbolism here couldn’t be any more apparent. This is the architecture of men who pretend to serve God, but who in reality believe themselves to be gods.

  1. And ppl still line up to be “blessed” by the holy feet that trample them. Whether it’s an American president or one of the stupid celebrities we trample each other to get close to.

The imagery is at once offensive to me. I don’t really care about the masochists who wouldn’t mind it, because even that is not benign. It reaches beyond themselves, they like being trodden upon, and from that comes masochism by proxy, which is what Hitler (forced others) to suffer.

BTW, try to reply to one of your own posts. The text box goes all the way to the right of the page, the tag cloud is in the way, it’s hard to see what I’ve typed because the letters from the cloud are transposed right over my text.

  2. I see this imagery as a threat.

Asshole #1: See? It says right here in this book that you were born to be trampled on, and I was born of Greatness.

Asshole #2: I can never locate my nipples when I want to rub them. It pisses me off so get under my feet!

So, let’s go to Rome for some target practice. We’ll say the culprit was in the book depository.

True story, there was a woman who was attending AA in Pasquotank County, some years back. She was a druggie and she had prostituted herself. She goes to the church for help. He passes around the collection plate, telling the folks how their money could help this lady. Afterwards, he tells her to meet him in his office, where he will write her a check. She gets there, and he tells her she’s a worthless whore and to get the fuck out of his office. She left without anything.

I can’t prove this happened, but this is her claim. And I don’t doubt it.

  3. Well, I know who the worthless whore is in that scenario. It makes me sick how people use the “powerless” poor (if they were truly powerless there would be nothing to gain in exploiting them) and defenseless to get fatter.
